FAQ

How much are the treatment fees?

$70 per treatment. Initial assessment is done at no extra charge.

How many treatments will it usually take?

Depending upon the nature of the problem it can take any where from 1 to 10 treatments to resolve an issue. Some clients may choose to have regular follow up treatments to encourage general wellness.

How often will the treatments need to be?

In order for the treatments to be effective they should be at the very most 1 week apart. For some conditions it is more effective to have 2 or 3 treatments per week. Maintenance treatments can be done on a biweekly or monthly schedule.

Does acupuncture hurt?

For most people acupuncture needles do not cause pain. There can be a mild to sharp pinching or pricking sensation upon insertion, which then fades to heaviness, itching, tingling or radiating. Once the needles are in it is common to experience deep relaxation.
For anyone who is very sensitive to, or afraid of the needles an alternative treatment can be done using cupping, massage and heat therapy to stimulate the acupuncture points and their meridians.

Where will the needles be inserted?

There are 365 points on the body and many extra points as well as ahshi points (ouch points). Most of the points are located on the meridians or channels that traverse the entire body, limbs and the head. In general a lot of needling is done on the lower part of the legs/feet and the arms/hands. Some needling is also done on the abdomen, back shoulders and neck. Occasionally needles are done on the face and head.

How many needles will be inserted for a treatment?

The number of needles per treatment will vary. It can be as few as 1 or 2 and up to 40. On average, between 15 to 30 needles will be used.

The needles are retained for 20-50 minutes.

Does health insurance cover acupuncture treatments?

Most extended health care plans cover acupuncture done by a qualified practitioner, while OHIP does not. Check with your insurance provider to determine your coverage.

How long does it take to get an appointment?

Wait times vary but in most cases, if at all possible, you will be given an appointment in the current week.

Do you have evening and weekend appointments available?

Evening and weekend appointments are available.

Will you do home visits?

Yes, home visits can be done. A nominal additional fee will be charged to cover the travel time.

What should I wear for the treatment?

It doesn't matter what you wear for the treatment. If the clothing you are wearing does not leave access to the acupuncture points, sheets can be used for draping.
